Don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s all about looks by the demure blush of this rosé. Like the perfect slice of salmon sashimi it’s as delicious to the palate as it is easy on the eye. Focused fruit aromas and a crisp finish.

In the Vines

Six years ago we made the decision to remove every second vine from our small block of Mourvèdre (moor-vey-druh). Because the variety is originally from the warm shores of the Mediterranean it is heat-resistant and grows vigorously in our climate. Removing half the vines gave each remaining vine more space on the cordon and allowed for a better balance between growth and fruiting.

Following a wet winter in 2013, the summer and harvest season was mild and consistent. Ripening was slow and steady and and the rosé fruit arrived in excellent condition at the winery.

The Wine

Mourvèdre has traditionally been used for the production of high quality rosé wines in Provence. It was therefore a natural step to use our estate vineyard and try it for ourselves. We have always enjoyed adding a bit of Mourvèdre to our Syrah for its spicy & earthy flavours.

This rosé stands out with a beautiful salmon pink color and a bit of orange peel on the rim. The wine elicits aromas of rose water, strawberries, watermelon, and black currant. It has a crisp, dry finish and is perfect alongside the braai. Serve slightly chilled, at 11-12°C.
